Weird K5 LCD issue

Took my K5 to work since there was a possibility of heavy storms (it didn't happen). During the day there, I turned it on, and the LCD was extremely dim. Try to display a picture, same thing. Nothing fixed it until I removed the battery and put it back in. Then it was back to normal.

Anyone ever experience that?

John

I had that issue sometimes (once a month). I just turn the camera off and then i turn it on and it's ok.

No but I suspect a firmware glitch with screen brightness that repowering fixed.

If it doesn't happen again soon then I think you are ok.

It did take removing the battery, as turning it off and then back on didn't resolve it. Will have to keep an eye one it.

I'll have to check when I get home from work. Been a couple of years since I updated it.

I'd suggest a firmware update; follow the instructions exactly, make sure you have a fully charged (healthy) battery and a (healthy) camera formatted memory card before starting the update procedure.

I have the latest one, but this is happening to me since i bougth the camera. My opinion is that might be a problem with electronics when the camera turns on. Like the lcd control doesn't load ok or something like that. I can live with that, it just happen once a month and i fix it turning the camera off and then turning back on.

Interesting. Have you tried it with a different battery?

I was using a brand new, almost freshly charged (about a month ago, little usage) battery that came with my K3 (the "old" battery that came with the K5 is in the K3). Just taking it out and putting it back in resolved the problem.

Interesting. I have a complete lock-up problem, which is only fixed with battery removal, and it only happens with one lens, a Sigma DG 70-300 Macro, and only when zoomed to 300mm. It happens very rarely. Happened to me only once on latest firmware, but did happen a lot on 1.13 firmware.

So it may be time to get the 1.16 (I think that's the newest when I last checked).

Yes, 1.16 is the latest. So far, it seems stable to me. I've not had any "funnies" since doing the firmware install.

One of the Caution advices in my K5 lls manual states to wipe off the contacts with a soft dry cloth before inserting... that may aid with the problem
