Short cut to turn SR on and off?

When using my 55-300mm on my K-5 IIs I switch from hand holding to tripod on a regular basis. I find it tedious to have to go through the menu system to turn the SR on and off. Is it possible to assign this function to one of the programmable buttons?

Are you using a timer delay on the tripod such as 2 sec? If so that turns off the SR by default.

No, most of the time I put on the tripod to reduce camera shake because I'm finding it difficult to hand hold it steady at 300mm. For moving subjects like ducks and insects the timer wouldn't work. Am I right that I'm giving up resolution by leaving SR on when on a tripod?

press the "inofr" should bring the quick manual. If you change the SR on/off last time, it will still be there when you open this manual page. one more click and you are done.
Or you can turn the remote shutter release on, which don't necessary turn the 2 sec delay, but will disable SR. You can still release shutter normally.

Try the following sequence:

Info > Info > Navigate to SR > Scroll rear wheel (SR on/off toggle) > Info

The next time it will default to the SR toggle, so:

Info > Info > Scroll rear wheel > Info each time to change

The reason SR is turned off by default on assumed tripod situations such as timer delay or remote is the SR system may try to compensate for non existing shake when on a tripod and not being held and can therefore be moving the sensor when it shouldn't.

If you are just using the tripod as a rest and have the head loose I think you need to test whether your hands are still inducing shake.
If they are then leaving SR on is a good idea.
Pressing the shutter could be causing some movement of the gear.

A monopod might work better for you in this case. I usually leave SR on when put the camera on the monopod.

Why not set the RAW/FX button to turn SR on/off in the customizations menu?

See page 71 in the English language version of the manual.

I believe if you use an IR remote, it turns off SR.

That's what I did thanks to a forum member tip. Had no real use for that button in it's default function (whatever it is ;~)

If you are taking the time to pull out the tripod, you might as well just use 2s delay to remove your hand shake from pressing the button. It's not much, but it will make your shots a tiny bit sharper.
