K5IIs vs Sigma DP2M

I recently visited Jasper National Park in Canada and had the K5IIs and Sigma DP2M with 15 MP foeven sensor with me. A few shots were of similar subjects but not exactly the same focal lengths. In this comparison the K5IIs is paired with the Rokinon 24mm TS and of course the Sigma has a 30mm prime lens. The 1st photo is the K5IIs and the 2nd is the Sigma. The less sharpness on the K5IIs photo is likely a slight focussing error. Let me know your thoughts.

Wow. That Foveon sensor is unbelievable!

Also in this pic I could easily spot the Foveon without readin first, it's probably the best landscape sensor out there bellow MF.

The K5IIs would have looked better if I had a better focus using the 24mm TS. However, I do like the foeven colour rendering right out of the camera.

I've tested the DP2M against the K-5, K-01, and K-3. For detail and sharpness, it beats them all. Amazing.

Yes John the pixel level sharpness of the Sigma can't be beat.

Nor the realistic colors. Though it gets ugly really quick (grey blotches and bad sharpness) as soon as you boost the ISO.

This is the first time I have seen a picture from a Foveon sensor camera compared (side by side) to any other. I'm Impressed!

Yes the Foeven sensor is realistically only useable up to ISO 200 so I won't be selling my Pentax DSLR anytime soon.

I like the camera but the Sigma software needs a bit of work. However, once you get that file converted to something that Photoshop can go to work on it is just stunning what detail and color is available. That picture on your monitor is a very weak example of what you will see if a good printer is used. My K-01 is way more user friendly but that Sigma puts out files that continually just stun me.

But, beyond ISO 200, forget it. And to get the very best out of it you need to use a tripod. Finally, it isn't really an action camera. If you kids will sit still it will probably get the picture but if you need to chase them around much...good luck.

The DP2M is much better. The trees in the foreground are much more 3D.

The K-5 IIs could probably be improved with a better lens, but I still doubt it could come close to the DP2M photo. The Sigma is impressive (and I'm generally not a Sigma fan)!

The Pentax shot is OOF, so I don't see how any conclusions can be drawn.

Really, in this and the other comparo in the K-3 forum, we are presented with images that are small, overly-processed and non-identical, so I don't see how much in the of determinations can be made.

Out of focus and Rokinon inferior quality glass, different lens length, lighting contrast different in both frames. Why bother?

It is amusing to see that after all these years Sigma cameras still can't render blue properly.

How come? To my eyes the Sigma sky looks way more natural.
