Yep, leather still works well. This one goes back to a Spotty in the early '70's. Now on a K5.

They definitely look more durable than the thin Pentax strap that came with the camera. I sometimes worry that I might have tied that strap incorrectly and that one day the whole thing might become loose and come apart and my camera and lens go crashing to the ground.

You TIED your camera strap to the camera? Don't you know what the little plastic thingamabobs attached to the strap are for?

Leather looks nice for sure, but not very good durability as it ages. I've almost lost two cameras due to leather strap failures, so after the second time I chucked all the other ones I had. Personal favorite strap for smaller cameras like the K5 is the old standard thin straps I saved from my Canon and Pentax SLRs back in the day. Simple, lightweight, and just works. For large cameras like my D3 I use Optech Pro straps which put up with the weight and help distribute it evenly over my shoulders and neck.

Durable? This DIY strap from an old belt goes back to 1971 and has been in constant use on my primary camera ever since. Shown on a K200D and presently keepin' company with the latest K5iis. I've two others that are only a LITTLE newer. They're old friends that are simpatico in a way that nylon just can't match. I expect these'll outlive me and end up on my son's gear -- but maybe not for 15-20 more years if I'm lucky!
