sigma 17-50 with k5iis not so good

I realy like this lens .it is sharp and very useful at most photography cases. works so good with k 3 and catch the focus quickly but when using it with k5iis it has much time to catch the focus .. hunts many times
. this is happening when using the lens at 17 mm as a close up.
your thoughts!

I also notice that is not so sharp at 17mm, actually the Tamron 18-250 is sharper at 18mm, may be my copy. And diffraction kicks in at lower apertures than other lenses
