Those pricing differences stopped me to buy new stuff more than once. I bought my Q7 in the US while the conversion made it ok to add shipping cost but now ...

Even after 20% VAT added on B&H or Adorama price you have between 20% and up to 120% higher prices in EU. When I see this I just feel that I'm being cheated and don't buy.

I don't understand why even direct buy through Ricoh shop has those high prices. Does this mean that Pentax/Ricoh neglict EU market even if it's bigger than NA for them ?

I think there are two separate issues here with two (or more) reasons for them.

1. RP Shop having high prices is normal way of encouraging people to buy through other channels, i.e. making sure your partners make money by selling your products so they will keep having them.
2. RP having high prices in Europe is a bit more mysterious. Might be that they are doing really good in Europe and see no need to lower prices. Or they base their global prices on a longer cycle and use the projected exchange rate.

Whatever the reason I'm in the same boat as you; after checking the prices for some lenses I was interested in, I decided simply not to buy.

I was last week at images-photo in Lyon (France), that's the same reseller as the Pentax store in Paris. I asked for prices and they checked on the Ricoh imaging shop to answer me... Why would I go there again if it's to get the price i can get for sure at anytime online with guaranteed availability and 3 days delivery ?

Well good marketing and sales practices are definitely not reasons to go with Pentax, at least in Europe.

Years ago I heard an explanation from Pentax Paris at the Salon de la Photo in Paris.
They said that the conversion of Euro to Yen is lower than Dollar to Yen...
But I'm not convinced...

After a little over a month of shooting with my new K5IIs, that price is still a bargain. This is a great camera.....best Pentax I have ever owned in every way. I shoot a lot of high ISO shots, and the K5IIs is wonderful for shots even up to ISO 6400.
Focus is also fast and accurate, and the WB is excellent. Great camera.....and a great price too!

Regards!

One of our photochains (Jessops) has been doing some clearance deals on the K5-IIs at £400, and now £350 today - and the few that are available are flying off the shelves! ( I was very tempted, but resisted!)
