Pentax K-5 shot count

Dear Colleagues,

Quick question: the last picture I took with my K-5 is numbered around 9000. Does that mean that I took around 9000 pictures with the camera, or can it be that the counter gets reseted after 9999?
Thank you in advance for your help!!

Regards,

Fernando

Check the exif with the tool on this site.
Image number can be reset/altered, exif data can't.

It does reset at 9999 so that number cannot be used to get an accurate shutter count. Use the tool linked to above.

Sounds like a handy tool. My file numbers were resent somewhere along the line, so I have no idea what the counts are on my cameras. Looks like I need to take an unprocessed jpeg to get the numbers however. As was suggested above, a Lightroom produced jpeg does not work.

Fernando, when you get to 9999 and the counter resets to IMGP0001, you will have duplicate file numbers, unless you have renamed your files.
You need to take some care or you will lose your older images if you just copy new images into the same computer folder!
In the Tools tab in the camera Menu you can change the File Name to whatever suits you - eg change IMGP to IMG1 or something.
(When I got my K5 I started as K5__ (double underline) and when I got to 9999 I changed it to K5_1 so my image numbers went from K5__9999 to K5_10001.
