K5 P mode continuous shutter speed

Hi,

Was playing with a pentax K5 and noticed that when set to P-mode the continuous frame rate appears to be slower than when in M mode. I noticed this because I have a nikon (curse words ) D2H which has an 8fps and it rattles frames off real quick but it should be similiar to the 7fps of a K5. I would say that P mode is getting about 3-4 fps whereas M mode sounds muc faster and appears to get something more like the 7 fps (difficult to measure exactly). Does the EXIF data hold ms timestamps?

Would this just be my imagination or is this a "thing". A cursory glance at the manual I couldn't find any real reason for why this would be.

Lens 35mm F2.4 (lovely lens BTW), 1/125 shutter speed ISO 4000 (ISO NR set to off below 6400), jpg mode *** (16M) quality, adobe RGB colour space, highllght and shadow off to lower processing overhead, Card is a class10 toshiba 16GB card although I get the same with an 8GB SanDisk also class 10. Firmware 1.16, newly charged battery . Though both tested consistently.

Think that is everything. Hoping that if someone says RTFM they could please give the page number

I was in a pretty low light so i had to set the EV -2.0 to get the 1/125 shutter speed, although this was the same for both.

Cheers

P.S. sorry if this is a dumb question

Try again with more light, it seems to slow down if light is low even if I try to keep the shutter speed high. But with more light I get about 7fps in both M and P mode.

( I tested by shooting my kitchen watch which have a sweeping second hand.)

thanks for the advice

I did get a chance to try it out and it appears that you are right.

With a lot of light I can get full speed out of the P mode.

Interesting - I can't find this stated anywhere, maybe it is just obvious

Although I agree that there would be more processing in P mode than M after all in M the camera just accepts what you tell it to do.

Thanks again for the help

Cheers
