K-5 in bulb mode - interesting behaviour

So I just took a 2 minute exposure in bulb mode (with a wired trigger and hold-open switch). Once I had released the shutter closed again, the camera began a 90 second countdown in the viewfinder. Why does it do this? What does it mean?

It may be over heated.

As part of automatic noise reduction for long exposures, the camera takes a dark exposure to measure noise levels. You can enable/disable it on the 3rd shooting menu page.

I didn't know there is a countdown visible in the viewfinder. I always looked for the orange write to storage light. I think the dark frame exposure is equal to the exposure time for the image you took.
