Missing screw.

I just noticed that my K5 is missing a screw from the base.
With the camera upside-down, it it the righthand outer corner ( Just above the 5 of the K-5 on the boiler-plate. )
Any idea what size it should be? And a source for a replacement?

crayboy, I believe my K-7 has the same body as the K-5. In my picture below, what piece are you missing?

If I am not mistaken, from what I have read, it should be a JIS screw

Top right, just above and to the right of K-7.

Just google search "micro screws" and try some of the vendors that show up. You may need to remove one of the other screws and measure it with a calipers to get the diameter and length (metric). Get some JIS drivers. Do not use Philips screwdrivers. Some of the vendors are on eBay too.

Maybe a local hardware store might be able to measure or try sample screws for you. Maybe even somewhere like Lowes or Harbor Freight.

You could try a screw from another location on the body to see if it fits. If it does you could seek that size. Just be careful the body or a part is not loosened too much.

Okay, so it's the screw from inside that cavity? If that's what you need, I might be able to help.
I have a stash of spare screws I've harvested from old, junk lenses. In the photo below is the original black screw from my K-7, and the silver is a spare I found.

They're not a perfect match, but the silver fits in the cavity and seems to snug down securely.
If you'd like to give the silver screw a try, crayboy, send me a private message with your mailing address and I'll mail it to you.

the K 5 is rated W R I believe

if the wrong size screw is used, would the W R of the K 5 be compromised??

Yeah, I don't know if WR would be affected.
For what it's worth, when I took my K-7's screw out, there didn't seem to be any gasket or sealer under the screw. And the screw is recessed a few mm inside the cavity when it's tightened down.

You'd be better off replacing the screw with the same time of head as the original, e.g. countersunk vs pan/button. The wrong type can put uneven stress on the screw head and/or the cover.
