From these shots, the ISO performance looks 2-4 stops better than K20D. That and the AF improvements make a compelling case for an upgrade.

If I get a break from shooting the Indian festivities in Bangkok over the weekend, I'll drop past a couple of the Pentax stockists here and report back on the prices in THB.

@frank, @creampuff,

I've seen the scene mode "Night scene HDR" in the K-r announcements. Can you try to play with it and find out what it does? Would be great!

Here are the 100% crops

Some comments by some members that there are no 100% crops.
Well here's a rough comparison to check the K-r noise levels.

Cream and Frank. Please do some long exposure test (without NR at low iso settings). Thats the thing the matter most to me aside from the high iso performance.

My friend tried K-r in the shop and said that the selection of AF points in VF by joystick is not fast and not immediately as in all Pentax cameras with AF points lightning.
The changing of AF points slow down a bit.

Can you confirm it?

To say honest, I'm a bit disappointed if it's truth.
Need new firmware to fix it.

He said that he can't see any difference in AF between K-x and K-r.
K-r is just a bit more tenacious, but it's hard to say when testing in the shop.

As for AF lightning beam - is it always automatiс?
Well, to me the AF point moves pretty fast (I'm holding the camera and tried it just now), almost instant, but it does appear to be a little bit slower than K7. Didn't notice the difference until I saw your Qs.

AF w/ Kr is definitely a bit snappier, but the difference isn't day and night.

Yes, AF light comes on automatically, but it can be disabled if you want to.

Just got confirmation that both the K-r, K-5 and the DA 35mm f/2.4 are already in Singapore and being prepared for distribution. They will be tested no later than this Saturday.
The price over here is gonna be fantastic...
According BIC Camera, the DA 35 mm F2.4 was only to arrive in Nagoya (Japan) by the end of November...

About the High ISO Performance looks like the K-r is almost as good as K-x...
- Better than K-7, but I don't see it is much better than K-x (but better comparison is needed)

Is definitely better than the Kx
Look at the shadow noise patterns between samples and note the difference.
At first glance it almost looks like a stop of difference.

However, we may be looking at a much improved low level noise reduction system.
Either way, the samples speak for themselves.

Aha. That's similar then to a feature in the Sony HX5V P&S ('Handheld twilight mode)' and some of the new Sony DSLRs too, I believe.

On the Sony HX5V 'handheld twilight mode' grabs six frames in quick succession, then stacks them to reduce visible noise. It reportedly works quite well. Looks like the K-r tries to do the same.

In JPEG - maybe yes. For 1-1.5 stops.
As for RAW - I can't say it.
