I honestly don't care if this is a gray market item if the only difference is that it is the exact same unit but meant for sale in another country. Still the same camera, still the same quality, and per my conversation with Pentax will still be warrantied in the U.S. as long as I have a dated receipt of purchase. Unless I'm missing something, wouldn't a "Canadian" K-r be just as good as an American one (maybe it would even come with a case of Labatt's).

There's no chance of "fake" K-r's out there, is there? I know there fake golf clubs, handbags, shoes, etc. everywhere in e-bay, but would think it would be extremely difficult to fake replicate the intricate workings of a DSLR especially this close to product launch especially with all the menus, software interface, etc.

I'm sure this is fine... posters on this board and the dpreview board seemed to have pretty positive things to say about hotdigital... which is the same thing as asavings.

Good luck with it, the seller has a bad history of selling refurbished as new, fakes, sending the wrong thing or alternate products and selling items not in stock.

I am curious as to why you've posted not once, but twice about being wary about this one seller on ebay, which you have never actually dealt with? It is obvious that several people who have posted in this thread (myself aside) have actually transacted with asavings/hotdigital multiple times, and never had a problem. At this point it seems a non-issue, so why bother repeating yourself?

Also, edit: did you actually read the negative feedback? well over 50% sound dissatisfied about the actual products they bought rather than the merchant, they are quite amusing to read for the most part. I have over 300 feedback myself on ebay, and will it is 100%, I would say I have run into about 3 morons too.

On another note, asavings listed the K-r with the 35mm f2.4 for $869 sometime today. If anyone is interested that seems to be a pretty good deal itself (since the lens is supposed to be priced in the $200-250 range).

For those of you wondering about this deal, this dealer is an authorized Pentax dealer. I bought one and the paypal payment goes to Focus Camera in Brooklyn, NY.

If you do a search on the Pentax website for authorized dealers and put in zip code 11218, Focus Camera comes up as an authorized dealer.

Urg, just checked my messages and found the store called my house and said they had a speak to me about my order. I ordered it at the $829 price before the bump to $869. I'm wondering if they're going to try to claim pricing error.

Just found another seller on ebay selling the K-r body only for $699.99 and free shipping. They have a 99.6% positive rating with over 92,000 feedback score.

Could be a good option if you don't want the 55-300mm or don't want to bother ebaying it after the fact.

Yeah, I understand not calling the store but I personally wanted to ensure this was a real business with someone on the end of the line who could answer questions in an intelligent and definitive manner, and also verify that the items were in stock and that they were a Pentax dealer.

Interesting about Focus Camera. I see that now on Paypal. Funny thing about it is on their actual website this same kit is listed for $999.

I dealt with a company out of Brooklyn who called my house as well. They tired to sell me "extended" life batteries for 60 dollars and a warranty for 100.

Some places also raise the price as the stock goes, supply and demand

I can vouch for this seller (prodigital2000) I bought a Tamron 17-50 from them just a week or so ago. I have it in hand and all is well, they were great to deal with.

They are part of the foto source group, they tend to have the best prices but you have to shop around. I ordered my K-R from another foto source store in alberta for $690. Should be here next week

edit: I know for a fact prodigital2000 prices also increase as the stock decreases! After I bought my tammy for ~$370, the price jumped up to ~380 and after more sold ~400. simple economics, but if you want a deal get it while its hot!

I know the foto source shops have them now (at a friggen great price too!! ~690-699!!)

I ordered mine like a month ago, but just called the alberta shop I ordered from (Robinson's) they have them in stock today. 2-3 days it should be in my hand!! Finally!!
