Pentax K-r with DA-L 18-55 and 55-300mm kit [open box]

Since many Pentaxians already shared many opinions and detailed overview of the K-r. So, nothing left to say, just want to share some pics.

Battery charger looks pretty similar to D-BC90, but not interchangeable. The K-r seems to be a little K-7 with newer sensor and faster autofocus system. Handling is much better than K-x and remind me of the K200D.

That k-r is a good looking camera, especially with the 50 mounted. I want a white one.

I can tell that K-r looks even more gorgeous with DA limited lens. These lenses are too small for the K20D but look just right with the K-r.

For e-dail, I tried rolling from end to end with completely fast and very slow action to compare. The aperture changed to the same value, so I assumed my copy is fine with this issue. The bad thing is I need to -9 AF adjustment for all of my lenses which are perfect with the K-7.

My AF comparison video between Pentax K-7 and K-r with various lenses.
The first lens is DA 70mm limited, then FA 50mm macro, DA 55-300mm and DA* 16-50mm.

Bummer! Did you check the focus under tungsten lighting? Thanks for sharing.

I did checked it with tungsten light condition, but I assumed this issue was solved since K-7.

Hmm someone else mentioned this same issue as well, right down to the -9. That doesnt seem to be right...But everything works fine with -9?

Hi, actually it is between -7 to -10, so I just left it at -9.

Love how the K-r looks and performs but still too expensive for me.
I would like to get the K-5 though if I will be spending anyway.

Hmm this kinda worries me, my k-r is coming tomorrow or next day. I have a new tamron 17-50 2.8 awaiting its body, but that lens is also a bit notorious (at least on "teh internets") for front/back focus. So if more correction is needed than is available it wont be good.

Did you just notice when you added the lenses and started shooting that the focus was off? The adjustment fixes the off-focus so that it is accurate enough and you are happy? Is consistent (enough) across focal lengths?

Thanks for the info!

After some calibration, everything works at least in my apartment.
If the -9 adjustment due to tungsten light, autofocus should be messed up during outdoor shooting.

Can someone educate me on focus adjustment? How to tell if a lens needs adjusting? Should I have to do this with the kit lens? I have bought several entry level DSLRs before (non Pentax) and they did not have this feature. I have a KR coming tomorrow.

Big price difference between a KR and a K5...I am amazed at the amount of responses that say just get the K5 when many people (especially beginners) do not need all the features of the K5.
