To answer your Q: Considering that the K-r has such an abundance of preset and fully re-configurable by the user Capture Modes, I don't really understand why it could be a concern?
Pentax DSLRs do not tend to make red come out as pallid orange or aqua come out as bright blue, if that's what you are concerned about. In fact many people consider they are quite faithful to real, unlike say Canon, who typically err to the "vivid" (IMhO anyway).
So why not try checking through some pix from the camera taken by average-person owners like yourself here below, and judge for yourself:
