K-r Incompatible with Promaster Flash

Based on advice I got here, I bought a K-r with kit lens plus a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 to go with it. It replaces a K100D which was 3 years old. The K-r has been reviewed by others far more able, so I'll suffice it to say that it's very impressive and far better than the K-100 in every way. I'm very pleased with my upgrade.

However, the Promaster dedicated flash that worked perfectly with my K100 won't even function with my new K-r. Anybody know a fix? I really hate to spring for a new flash right now.

If your flash is an EDF model it can be upgraded to become compatible with your K-r. If it is a DX or earlier model then the best you can hope for is to fire the flash with the camera and the flash in manual modes. Or you can get a wireless trigger set and use the Promaster flash as a remote strobe.

To be certain whether or not your flash is upgradeable you should check out www.promaster.com and consult the flash doctor. If that still does not get you the results you are looking for, send me a PM and I might be able to help you out myself. Best of luck.

My flash is a 7500 DX model. I guess I can still use it as a slave to the camera flash, but what I really want is a flash that does it all. I checked out the Promaster compatibility chart on their website. It shows the K-7 is incompatible and doesn't list the K-x, K-r or K-5. Thanks for your offer, but I probably will just sell the flash with the camera and buy another.
