Best Memory Card For Kr

Is there a recommended/preferred memory card for the Kr....or K7 for that matter. I am going to order my new Kr hopefully yet today and I am a bit confused about memory cards.

Go for quality. You do not want to loose your shots because of a card error.

Sandisk is renown for quality. For example, Sandisk Extreme III Class 10 30 Mb/s will give you an excellent transfer rate fo Hi continuous shooting with K-7, K-x, K-r, ...

Thanks for your advice

So class 10 is ok? Class 6, class 10, confusing to me. The speed I understand is important. Thanks again.

sandisk extreme III 30 mb/s has the best transfer speed, next is Lexar Professional

the speeds of various cards of the same class could be very different. whatever you do dont go for the cheapest you find

I've been shooting with 8GB Class 10 SDHC cards from Patriot and Transcend this last year without any problems. I think they're good quality and a lot more affordable than San Disk or Lexar. You can find them from New Egg, Amazon, or Fry's.

Today's email special I got from B&H included a Transcend 8GB class 10 SDHC card for $12.95. I ordered two.

Yeah, I shoot with Transcend class 6 on the K10D and Toshiba class 10 for the K-r...they seem to do the job for a good price.

Thanks for all the input

I never buy the cheapest anything.....it drives my bargain hunting wife nuts. She can't understand why I wouldn;t buy a Walmart special on Nikon 3000 or Canon XRS.

Is there any advantage to buying anything larger than 8 Gig? Anything bigger I am afraid I could lose a lot of images should a card fail.

The only reason I would use a bigger card than 8GB is if I was shooting alot of video, otherwise, it should be fine.

I recently purchased a 16GB class 10 card from New Egg for $20.99 during black friday weekend.

Advantages? More pictures and longer video I guess. As to whether the cards would fail, well, the same argument has been made when people were moving from 4gb to 8gb. And then 2gb to 4gb before then. Just make it a point to transfer your picture after shooting and you should be fine.

Just because something is affordable does not mean it's cheaply made.

If you plan to use your camera in setting were you buffer might full up, buy a sandisk extreme III or a Lexar professional (The lexar aren't that expensive BTW). They are faster card and will empty your buffer more quickly so that you can shoot again!

Sandisk Ultra II is certainly fast enough for K-x. Not sure if the K-R records higher resolution video than K-X that it would need the extreme III.

I'm using Sandisk Class 6 (Ultra II) and Verbatim Class 10, both 8GB. The latter are definitely a few seconds faster at swallowing the buffer after continuous shooting, but otherwise I don't notice any real difference. I've hardly done any video but what I have done has worked fine with both cards.

Thanks for all the comments. That is just one more reason I stayed with Pentax, so many helpful folks, especially on this forum. I ordered my KR today with the DA L 18-55mm and DA 55-300mm lens. I ended up ordering the Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC card because it had a good price. I couldn't turn down the Amazon price of $749 for the kit. I have been doing way too much research and soul searching over this decision and now can't wait to get my hands on the KR. Until yesterday I had never been able to see a KX or KRand that was holding me back. I happened to be in Dallas and visited Frye's Electronics and there to my delight was not only a KX but a K7. They only carried the KX with a single lens and the K7 body only. Their prices were pretty well what you see on-line. Now I am a happy camper.
