I am also curious, it's said that the sensors of K-r and K-x are same, and the sensor of K-x is same with nikon D90, just I heard this rumor, wow
The use of Sony sensors and "sharing" of sensors with Nikon cameras is nothing new, although the sensors used by Nikon are sometimes "tweaked" for/by them.
The 6MP sensor used in the *istD & co, K100D & K110D was a Sony part also used in the Nikon D70, D70s, D50 & D40.
Similarly, the 10MP sensor of the K10D, K200D and K-m was also made by Sony and shared with the Nikon D40x, D60, D80 & D3000 (the D200's sensor was a faster relative).
There just aren't that many producers of APS-C sensors...
