i just purchased one as a gift for somebody. so i was browsing this forum section, searching..

i have one question: does anybody actually take pictures with this camera? or is it so defective and crappy from the factory it's not worth bothering with?

just sayin'..

The first two bodies I received were defective out of the box, but I couldn't be happier with the third. The K5D looks like a great camera, but i just personally wouldn't have done justice to all the extra bells and whistles. We have no tungsten lighting left in our house, so I haven't experienced the focusing problem that seems to plague so many. I would advise you to charge the battery and check the camera thoroughly, though. My first one had a defective LCD, and the dials just spun and never engaged on the second. Neither problem would be especially conducive to a happy gift-giving experience.
