Video Editing Workflow

Hey everyone,

I'm a new Pentax user and I'm eager to test out my newly acquired video capability. I'm aware that a lot of people are using these camera's to make short films, documentaries, etc. What kind of work flow are you using when it comes to editing your video? What editing software do you find works best with the camera's motion JPEG AVI file format? I'm not overly interested in 'effects' at this time, but I'd like the ability to do colour correction and so forth. I'd also like to be able to output some HD video to youtube. Any suggestions?

Edit*

I should note that I'm on a Windows machine

I'm not sure that's exactly what I had in mind... I'll check it out, just the same.

Well if it's just basic editing, you can't go wrong with movie maker. If you want something more powerful, look into the vegas suite of products or the newly released Lightworks (which is free).

Have you tried Avidemux or VirtualDub?

Sony Vegas is what I would recommend -- not sure how good the free options are. Premier Elements seems to have a lot of issues with stability (at least it did).

Actually the software can do color correlation is pretty sophisticated one. such as premier. i do not think simple video editing software can do color correction. I did use a less complicated one called Corel VideoStudio Pro X3. This is less complicated than premier. I think for beginning to intermediate level user. It also can do color correction. But done in much simple way than premier. I also tried PowerDirector 9, but unfortunately I can not find color correction option.

Sorry for the late reply

I'm on a PC. Also, I was hoping for some actual workflow ideas..step by step from shoot, to edit, to finished product.

I've decided to go with Premiere Pro, and am currently teaching myself the ropes of basic editing.

I see you are on a PC, but iMovie really makes the workflow ridiculously easy and is fun to work with.

Then check this out.."Filmmaking Tutorials", total 15 episodes. I think a good walk through of filmmaking. It also touch a bit in color correction using premiere.Pretty inspiring.
