yeah the k-x and k-r's shutter sounds leave something to be desired...kind of loud and I don't know, seems a little unrefined, but not terrible. The k-7 was soooooo nice (smooth and quiet, if it can actually be smooth) though.

For me, the leap from the Canon's boat to pentax's was decided by the huge price of a Canon 550d body, considering it's features. I'm not a fanboy but a guy who claims good, best performance/price ratio. I would choose, with no regrets, another company (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic etc.) if they would offer something better at a decent price.

yeah, I don't know if you can beat Pentax for performance/price right now. A comparable setup with Canon or Nikon would cost significantly more.

The only thing that could beat Pentax is Pentax from before the damn '09 lens price hikes.

K-r is a bargain in terms of its feature

I am on the verge of buying a KR, after using a canon 400D for 3years.

The most important feature from K-R that's not mentioned much in this forum is the micro adjustments for focus and it's a pain not to have them when you hear so many stories about FF & BF with some of the 3rd party lenses (sometimes Canon lenses too!) and people ending up getting a "over-serviced" body/lens and have wasted so much time and energy for nothing...... Yes, Canon does not offer it in their cameras that are under 1200USD, and I was prepared to pay for a 7D. But luckily K5 had many great reviews and I started checking on Pentax and I found that Pentax K-R is all I wanted. I am now in the process of selling my canon gears and getting ready for my Pentax!

The only downfall I have seen is the sound of the shutter is quite a bit louder than on the K200d.
This might be due to weather sealing too since the K200D and other weather sealed models (K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5) tend to muffle the shutter sound with its more encapsulated body and rubber seals than the non-weather sealed ones which would make the sound reverberate (less rubber) and sound more.

Well heck. That makes a lot of sense! Of course the weather sealing would muffle it somewhat... never considered that! Thanks for the nudge toward logical thinking, Gerry

Thanks for all the welcomes...... I was a zoom guy until 6months ago that I discovered the primes. As I was searching, KR small size with the pancakes is a perfect set up for street photography and I am sold.
