K-r's aperture question

Hi all, I'm new to dslr's and i recently got my first one, a white K-r 18-55 kit, 3 days back. It is simply AWESOME..... i do have one question though, when shooting on "manual" at the widest angle, there are times when i can get the aperture down to f3.5 , however, there are many an instance where it stays put at f4.0 and just refuses to go down (also at the widest angle).

Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks for the help

Good choice. K-r is a clever toy. I'm training mine to wash dishes and feed the cat on time.

Q1: When in Manual Mode, and with 18-55 DAL attached; will it go down to f3.5 when you toggle the Av button (+/-) and roll the eDial to manually alter aperture?
Mine does, with all other usual defaults enabled.

Q2: Did you try disconnect~reconnect the lens? Sometimes a rare bad contact happens.

not sure whether u realize that the aperture will change according to ur zoom level, ie at 18mm will be 3.5 while 55mm will be 5.6.

At 18mm it should always go down to f/3.5. Perhaps the transmission of lens data from the lens to the camera is slightly out of calibration, or the lens isn't locked securely in place.

It doesn't matter for the exposure what the display shows, though.

Are you sure the lens is all the way at 18mm? I don't have my 18-55 with me to test, but I'd bet that if it's even slightly moved from the 18 mark, it drops the max ap to 4.0.
