cropping with the Digital Camera Utility

Having hard job cropping images in Pentax DC Utility V4.30 on a mac.
I can move the cropping box and get left hand top to be in the right place
And
I can get the right length of the cropping box
but
getting it to be the right width - duh - I can not. Must be a simple answer
hope you can assist

I use PDCU on PC, but I believe that the options are very similar on Mac.

When you select Cropping, you can choose the Cropping aspect ratio:
- original
- standard size (with pull down menu)
- any given value (with selection of Width and Height)
- Undefined.

(In my setup, itis on the left. If the Cropping option does not appear, check the menu Windows and ensure that Cropping is ticked.

If you are new to this, try first the original crop aspect ratio. It will use a window of the same aspect ratio as the original photograph. That is your safe 'best bet'.

With experience you may consider to select the H:W (height to width ratio) that you want to use.

I use often Undefined when I want to zoom on some smaller part of the photograph.

Hope that the comment will assist and you like the post....

Now how do I apply the crop?
Do I just save it now?

And this time found the save as DNG but it didn't apply the crop
AHHHHH
I have become so used to intuitive software I am finding the pentax Utility frustrating because of my lack of understanding.
Can I apply the crop AND save the image as a DNG?

Two comments:
- PDCU is not the most intuitive, but the results are pretty good, among the best fee-paying softwares.

- I am unsure if you can save DNG. Typically PDCU and all other softwares are used to generate JPEG. However, you can always save the parameters (in PDCU: File/Save parameters) to get back the same setup with your original file.
