Pentax k-r uses in australia

hi peoples,

i'm looking to purchase a k-r in the not too distant future, and i was wondering if there were many k-r users in australia?

if so, what have your experiences been?

furthermore, i've been looking around for a decent deal at the usual retailer-suspect, but haven't found anything like the jb hi-fi deal they did early in the month. is it worth waiting for the deals to come around again or should i look at purchasing an k-r online?

i'm also looking for a pentax smc da 40mm, f2.8 if anyone has a spare laying around..? =P

regards,
ty

I bough mine from camera house in melbourne when in the 1st week of release. so far i'm happy with the results but there may be slight front focus issue. I'll probably be sending my lenses and body to C.R.Kennedy for calibration. I also bought the DA 40 at a different store and the two work very well together.

Another Melbournian here... I got the K-r from digidirect as it was the cheapest online price at the time.

Have had nothing but positive experiences with it. Haven't noticed any front or back focus issues, but at the same time I haven't been intentionally looking for it. I'm just enjoying the camera instead!

Got mine from JB Hifi for $720 a couple of weeks ago. No complaints except when the user lets dust in

Had mine since they were first available from digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au. Shop around online, but I would follow the advice of others and buy local stock rather than a grey import.

The camera is a ripper. Very minor FF issue but nothing to worry about. I've taken over 4000 pictures since November including of a month in Vietnam where the camera was a dream to travel with. Check out davidbrewster.smugmug.com for examples.

I'm confident that you'll love it.

I wouldn't hold out for JB HiFi to have any more deals, even though lately it seems to be held every month or so.

Mine wasn't a "deal". They advertised it for $798 (sadly that has now increased to $896...it will drop again, though) and I asked them for a better price. I was satisfied with the offer, though a couple of guys from Melbourne managed to get their JB stores to under $700.

That is also a real p-o. Its fairly typical of JB though, they don't regard pentax entry level as worth anything. Its good for those looking for an excellent deal. $614... why oh why didnt I wait??? But, its always the way... as predicted they dropped the price again. I just would never have predicted they would drop it that far!!

Thanks for the heads-up about JB's special - I was waiting for a few more months yet, but couldn't pass that up and got one yesterday afternoon. Very happy!

Cheers, Alex

JB still have it for under $700 with DA 18-55 but are amenable to bargaining...
