Nice expression captured at 3200 iso. Very good. Maybe try vertical crop?

I find the 55-300mm very loud. I do find that in sufficient light, it locks on very good. However, at low to no light... not so useful. Hence why I tend to use my 18-135mm more:

DA 18-135, f8, 135mm, 1/500s, iso 400, jpeg from camera with PP in LR 3.3 to clone out a stick and adjust colours and crop it about 80%

Oops, posted a picture, but then noticed you're asking for ones from K-r...

As for advice, look up the rule of thirds! It's very useful.

I must say, I have been VERY happy shooting at 3200 ISO with this camera. What noise reduction do you use, kostadinov? I have my 3200 NR set to medium and have been very happy with straight from the camera jpegs.

Here are a couple of shots with the K-r and the 50-200mm kit lens. I'm a complete photography n00b in keeping with the title of the OP. The first shot I think is at iso 800 for no good reason. It was broad daylight. I was testing some iso stuff earlier and forgot to reset it before it was taken.

edit:// forgot to mention no pp if it wasn't obvious. Any criticism/advice is appreciated.

Not great but

This was taken with the DAL 55-300mm kit lens. I am still getting use to the camera so this one will do until I get some better shots. Keep in mind I am new to the K-R and a newbie as well with DSLR photography.

To me your image is a good example of how automated focus decision making can mislead in practice.
Presumably you used AF and the camera seems to have picked the prominent lichen covered vertical branch as its priority target, which it quite well defined too; whereas the human's intention would more likely be of wanting most sharpness concentration on the bird. Correct?

Or was it post-applied software that falsified things? It's hard to tell because the Metadata has been butchered.

Very good pic nonetheless.

It could have been both as I did sharpen a bit in PS and not sure why the Metadata is butchered.

I've had my K-r with 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses for about 3 weeks and this is my first DSLR camera. Here are a couple of photos I took this past week on a trip to AZ for a few days. Each taken with the 55-300mm lens, hand-held, using Av mode and all at 300mm, f5.8 except the last photo. ISO was 800 for first 2 photos, and 400 for the remaining photos. The last photo was taken with the Raynox-150 added to the 55-300mm lens set at 70mm and f5.6. No PP has been applied to any of these - they are all straight out of the camera without no cropping or other adjustments.

The best "exposure" I see from that lot is that in 3 weeks you have shown a natural talent and eye for the true beauties of the world. That K-r is definitely in good hands and being used for what all K-r's deserve to be.

Ps; can I please request a favour? Could you take one or two example pics for me using your 55-300 @ 300mm with the Raynox 250 on?
(I've been thinking of a DAL 55-300 but first would love to see how well my 2 Raynox would marry with it.)

Your images are beautiful! Do you mind if I ask what kind of jpg preset you were using? The color is amazing, perfectly saturated, photos are nice and sharp and noise free. I think the biggest impact here is your superb eye for composition, but I can't help but be in love with he color rendition, and clean, sharp output you are getting. The Bee photo, and the bird on a log really made my day! Thanks.
