All three photos taken with the red-headed stepchildren of the Pentax line....the K-r and 50-200mm.

I can't believe low light capability. I was a chicken never letting the camera go above 800 ISO until I saw some of the pictures posted here. The other day I was taking pictures of costumed actors back stage with near to no light save the AF assist lamp, This afternoon a picture taken in a poorly lit barn...

K-r + DA 50-200mm WR @ 6400 ISO

I'm very new here and I would like to get some of your opinions regarding entry level dslr K-r compared to K-x and K-7. not very sure if its okay for me to post my question in this thread :/

also, i know its the lens that pretty much makes the difference in the picture quality. may I know if 18-55 mm is the basic lens that most of the time comes with the dslr when purchase? and does kit lens = basic lens?

is there any lens the seniors here can introduce for newbies?

sorry if I side track in this thread and if i asked some stupid questions
thanks in advance!

You might want to introduce yourself in the introductions forum, then ask your question in the Beginners Q&A forum... but since you asked it here:

1) The kit lens = basic = 18-55 yes. It gets you from moderate wide angle to moderate telephoto field of view. It will serve you for taking pics around the house, but won't let you read your neighbors newspaper from your kitchen table.

2) I cant speak to K-7 but K-r is like K-x next generation - few extra gadgets like focus indicators, and a couple other things but for all intents - if K-r is too much $, K-x will get you there.

I might suggest posting follow up questions here: Pentax Beginner's Corner Q&A - PentaxForums.com

Another K-r noob here. These are two of my favorite shots yet, My son, taken as the sun was setting in my backyard. The other is my wife, hamming it up at the Applegate zoo in Merced, CA. Both were taken with my SMC M 55mm f/1.8.
