Did I possibly mess up my K-r?

K-r is my first DSLR and I just got it today, I was playing around with it and in the process I ended up turning the focus ring a little bit each way... with AF turned on

Obviously I wont be repeating this I will be more observant in the future, but do you think this will cause any problems? It seems to focus fine, both MF and AF, but I am a paranoid person with new toys lol

thanks in advance for any help

Does your lens have the quick-shift feature (the 18-55 DAL does not)? It should be OK even if not - just avoid doing that :-)

Right- with non-quick-shift lenses, you can still shift the focus as long as you use enough force to also drive the axle in the camera. Definitely don't do this, however, as it can break things

The kit lens that comes with the K-r is a non-quick-shift lens. If you want quick-shift, get a used DA 18-55mm II or a DA 18-55mm WR.

As a rule of thumb, DA and DFA lenses have quick-shift while others (including DA L) do not.

I've done the same thing a fair few times on my k-x, thinking I had a QS lens attached or that I had the switch on MF. No ill effects so far, I wouldn't worry about it

Note the DA 35mm f2.4 is the only DA lens not to have quick shift.

If the camera is still auto focusing as it should, there should not be a problem. I did exactly the same thing when I got my K-x, and 6 months and over 4500 shutter actuations later, no problem.

Next time If you want to focus manually, just remember to switch to MF

Is the focus ring the finely notched ring at the front?

Right. No harm, just try not to do that.

In the future, if you'd like to turn the focus ring without disengaging AF first, just reach over with your right ring finger and hit the lens release button, which retracts the AF driver as well.
