I am new to this forum and am yet to buy my first DSLR. After reading much about the Pentax Kr I have decided to go ahead and purchase it in the twin lens pack.

I know on amazon and a few other online stores I can get the Pentax KR with DA L 18-55mm and DA L 55-300 lens for around $800 (plus $40-60 for delivery) but I don't want the DA L series lenses.

I am looking at getting the kit with the 18-55mm AL II (not DA L) and the 55-300mm (again not DA L) and it will cost me just under AUD$1000 delivered (which is equivalent to the same in USD at the moment).

My question is: is the Kr twin lens kit with these particular lenses worth almost $1000? Am I right to pay extra to get the non "L" lenses?

The regular DA lenses have quick shift and metal mounts, but they are otherwise optically identical to their cheaper DA L counterparts. If you really want to be able to use quick shift, then it'll cost you, as the price difference between the DA and DA L 55-300's is about $200, thus making $1000 total sound about right!

If you got the body only ($582) and the rest used ($275 for the DA 55-300 and <$70 for the 18-55), you might be able to get the whole package for under $900, but that's assuming shipping is free. Check our marketplace for some recent used deals!
