Will this finally be an end to the negativity? Perhaps not, but again Pentax shows it can actually fix problems...

OK, so it doesn't work for a couple of people here (if indeed the firmware update was installed and performed appropriately), and therefore it's a failure and so is Pentax...

If the firmware didn't fix their problem it doesn't make Pentax a failure. It means they don't have the problem that the firmware was issued to fix. they should be looking elsewhere for the problem.

Not so fast, Ursamajor.

You and several others asked JayBee if he reset his camera. His answer was: "RESET the camera (i.e. turn it off after firmware update, then turn it back on?) Yes." Wrong answer. He did not reset his settings to factory, he just turned his camera on and off.

I'm with Geru2000. His problem is elsewhere.

Yes, you're right, I already ask him. I believe that he knows about the difference between turning off and reset. What do you think?

Well, I don't know him, and I'm sure he's a great guy, but I think you are giving him too much credit. He gave a description of his "reset" process (the "ie:" part) and that example was not the correct method to perform a factory reset. He also put a "?" after it which demonstrates that he is unsure that his method was correct.

Maybe someone should explicitly detail the correct menu selections for him to follow? Heck, I don't know. All I know is that I'm encouraged by these developments and I can't wait to get my hands on a fix for the K-r.

As far as I can tell he's the only one who said there is no improvement.
People on other forums/boards/threads say there is either total elimination of FF or big improvement.

Hi Adam, do you know if we have to be patient for a couple of days or for a few weeks?

Just completed my update , and woo hoo, it is a roaring success.
I have never experienced a major problem, but this has worked well, nevertheless.

Adam,
On the start page you write "Enjoy! The corresponding K-r update will be released shortly as well!"
You seem to be well informed, so what will we K-r users have to expect (days, weeks or months)? Looking at the 645D and K5 firmware updates (both cameras have the SAFOX+ AF), only the K5's AF was repaired (not the 645D's). This leads me to assume that the "+"-part of the SAFOX system is not to blame for the K5's and the K-r's FF-problem (the K-r comes without the "+" SAFOX, yet exhibits the identical FF-probs as the K5; the 645D - like the K5 with SAFOX+ - doesn't frontfocus). Its all guesswork, yet we K-r users also wamt a useable camera. In my case, I had already negotiated the return of my K-r with my dealer (and then to get a used "emergency" body of the likes of the K20D) and then, the next day, along came the K5 update. So, we decided to wait for another week, hoping that the K-r update would be up for download only 1 or 2 days later. Is this only a marketing gag (K5 users as premium buyers get service earlier and the lowly K-r users get to waot although the software is finalised)?
Of course, I know that Japan is in dire straits right now and K-r firmware updates might not be too high on the agenda, yet Adam, when do you think pur K-rs will receive their update to make them useable indoors?

I am getting frustrated too... I wonder if the earthquake has delayed for the time being.
