For some days, the K-r firmware (v1.01) link disappeared in the firmware updates list in the Japanese site. Direct link was still available though, for those who know the url.

It has reappeared a few days back, still v1.01, but no one knows or confirmed if has silently added the FF fix.

It might be coincidental that it reappeared a few days before K-5's 1.03 came out?

I doubt it, these are the listed changes:

Changes to V1.01

-Compatible with SDXC memory card.
* Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class.

-All ISO sensitivity setting can be used on Bulb mode.
-Improved functional sequence for Contrast AF and improved total speed until in focus.

Hence the term 'silent update'. Proven or not, Pentax (maybe other brands too) are regarded to include unannounced fixes to f/w releases. This allows them not to officially acknowledge any problems.

Yes the link is in the front page, but for a few days, that also showed a 'page not found error'.

I'm not saying there was a silent update, or there is a conspiracy here. I'm just saying it may be a possibility.

As a K-r owner myself, I also want this issue resolved. And the seemingly positive feedback on the K-5 update is really an inspiring thing

I am disappointed too, but at least they addressed it in the flagship model... I guess that is a step in the right direction, and I think it is reasonable for them to address it in the $1500 camera before the $500 one.

If they name the firmware as the same, nobody will download it. There won't be silent updates because nobody will download the same old numbered update.

Great forum, and I think after this is fixed we can finally see folks start to post pictures, rather than just complain about FF!!

Good news. I hope will be so...

I didn't believe it that Pentax will improve (unfortunatelly, not fix, as some owners said it) the ff issue on K5. I'm waiting the Kr fix to re-buy it.

Will this finally be an end to the negativity? Perhaps not, but again Pentax shows it can actually fix problems...
