Used Pentax-A 50mm f2 lens and strange K-r behaviour

I just purchased the lens shown in the title from e-bay. When I mount the lens on my K-r, it causes erratic behaviour. Everytime I touch a button, the shutter clicks half-way. In Av mode the e-wheel erratically sets the aperture (lens set to A.) After taking a picture, every button (Menu, wheel, etc.) cause the shutter to click.

Any suggestions of what is at fault?

Thanks.

Gerry

General maintenance:

• Clean the mounting face and electrical ball-contact of the lens, and the camera mount too.

• Manually operate the aperture lever on the lens to make sure it moves smoothly, and, that it isn't bent.

• Twist the Aperture ring off, and then back onto, the A position a few times to make sure it seats at A properly (my 50/A doesn't seem very positive or give proper feedback [by that I mean feel, such as some positive click-in position] that its there).

• Set Menu C, tab 4, item 22, to 2.

Remount, and good luck.

Thanks a million for your quick reply. You were spot-on. the aperture control pin was bent inward toward the lens center. I cleaned the contacts for good measure and the lens works great now.

Is the permission to use the aperture ring necessary when the aperture setting is locked to "A"? My intuition didn't agree with that.

Thanks again.

Gerry

No, it's not. Your intuition is absolutely correct.
I only recommend leaving it on Permit because there is usually little reason not to, insofar as occasions will arise when you will prefer to manually set the aperture (by the physical ring).

In such cases it can be a great spoiler to have the shot all set up, only to lose it because the shutter wouldn't ... %^#$@&!

I'm sure you know the feeling.
