Third party batteries any good?

This battery is 1/4 of the price of the pentax brand one. I was considering getting like 3 of them and calling it a day. Anyone have any experience, warning or thoughts on non-pentax batteries?

Here's a link to a thread where a Forums member did some actual testing of a 3rd party battery (for K-5): https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5-forum/138216-totally-rubbish-inov8-batteries.html

I haven't done tests, but after I bought my K10D I also bought a Sakar 1800 mAh - from Amazon - as a backup. I was satisfied with performance of the Sakar. I think I got my money's worth. But, even when it was new, the Sakar never lasted as long as the Pentax battery. And after about a year of frequent usage, while the Pentax battery performed almost as good as new, the Sakar was nearly useless - lasting about 10 minutes on a full charge.

If you get a low enough price, an off brand battery may still be a good buy for you. Just don't expect it to be as durable as an original Pentax.

edit: Also, from what I've read (Is lithium-ion the ideal battery? – Battery University), lithium ion batteries have a shelf life. So, I guess it's not a good idea to buy them ahead of time for future use.

Tim

Most batteries are third-party with a different label.

I got a Lenmar for about $16 that works fine.

I think the AA adaptor is infinitely more useful than another li-ion battery

Why? It's significantly more expensive and you still have to buy the batteries.

Lenmar has an Li-Ion for the K-r now? I don't see it on their site. Very happy with the one I have for my Canon P&S.

Example: you go on a trip/tour, you have 2 li-ion batteries, both of them run out and you have no time or chance to recharge them, not much you can do.

But if you had the li-ion that came with the camera + the adaptor and rechargables(eneloops), you run out of batteries for both and no time/chance to recharge them... what do you do? You can buy a set of 4AA batteries
I also bought a non-genuine adaptor on ebay for a cheap price, really its just a peice of plastic with some connectors so it will work as good.

theres none anymore atm, but the one I bought was
Brand New AA battery adapter Pentax K-r non-oem d-bh109 (eBay item 220740691487 end time 22-Feb-11 18:19:55 AEDST) : Cameras Photo

I don't see any reason why more wont show up in the future, unless pentax is busy litigating instead of fixing that issue we all know about.
