Fixed!

Yeah, I tried the spinning trick and this time it fixed it. I guess I hadn't spun it enough the first time. But it fixed the rear e-dial, the top one is still faulty. Anyone had luck with the top dial?

You mean the dial that selects the shooting mode? Never had a problem with that, other than it being too easy to turn and switching the mode when taking it out of my bag. What problems are you experiencing with it? Sounds like a more serious problem than the e-dial...

Exactly. It only lets me select Manual, Video or Av. All other modes are unavailable (they select as Av). The problem started 1 week after the e-dial problem, so I think it is related. I'll try to spin it to see if it works here too and I'll come back to tell if it really did.

That sounds like what happens when you have an M lens attached: you can only use M, video, and all other modes display as Av, like you say. It's on page 312-313 of the K-r manual.

If you're not using an M lens, then there is a problem with the electrical contacts between the lens and the body, making it think there is either no lens attached, or an M lens. I would try cleaning the contacts if that is the case.

I've had zero issues since my e-dial was fixed something like three months ago. And my K-r seems just as solid as my previous bodies (K100D, K200D). It's got 4513 shutter actuations so far.

Just got my K-r back from Pentax Canada Service today. Everything is good so far.

The invoice says the part replaced was the "TV/AV DIAL P.C.B BLOCK", and that my camera was cleaned and adjusted. They even got rid of that annoying speck of dust that was in my viewfinder!

In total, it was at service center for just over a week. I was expecting to wait at least a month. VERY impressed with the service.

Thanks for the info! I'm gonna check the contacts and try to mount the lens again to see if anything happens.

You were right. Just detached the lens, attached again and the mode selector started working correctly again. Everything's normal now. Hope the e-dial problem doesn't happen again. Thanks everyone!

Thx Ovim! The spin trick worked for me as well. I just spun it for about 30 seconds back and forth and all is well for the time being. Thanks again.

I wonder if Pentax has realized this design flaw? Just reading alot of threads on the same thing across the Pentax range.

My e-dial started having intermittent problems only after 2 months of purchase. I did the spin spamming thing for about a month and then it totally busted on me. Permanently skips ahead whilst turning right and turning left, actually turns right.

Mines currently getting repaired. T_T
