First Shots with my K-r

Well, I got my K-r a few days before the kids and I headed for Cabo San Lucas. I took hundreds of photos. It's obvious that I have a lot to learn, but I think a few of them turned out ok?

i especially like the 4th picture with the cruise ship in the background - looks like it was copied straight off of a (very effective) travel brochure.

was this all with the kit lens?

Yes, these were all taken with the DA L 55-300. The 4th pic with the cruise ship had a CPL filter on it. I did very little PP work on these - just a little cropping and contrast adjustments - that's about all I know how to do right now in photoshop....still learning PP as well

Very nice. Already your pictures are a cut above family/vacation "snapshots," due, I believe to such things as shallow depth of field and the quality of the image that comes from a much larger sensor than most point & shoot cameras have. The top three are especially good.

Good start, some nice shots there. No1 is rather nice, it can be argued the sun is over blown, but in a funny way it adds to it. Number three is nice with your son (I presume) holding his hand out like that, it makes it personal. Number 4 is like already stated a brilliant travel brochure type shot.

Really good start, and I'm sure they'll be many more to come! enjoy the cam!

Awesome, I like the first shot too. Wow that DA L 55-300 looks great!! In a couple of shots it almost has limited lens qualities.

Enjoy the K-r

Thank you everyone with the kind words. I was really pleased with the 55-300 lens. I did have some issues getting the lens to focus correctly when I had the CPL attached. I'm sure that I'm not doing something correctly with the settings. I tried shooting mostly in Av mode, although I really had no idea what I was doing. It is going to take me a while to recognize what settings will work best in different light situations. When that finally happens, who knows what kind of pics I will turn out
