is this lens ok for Kr

pentax smc DA 17-70mm f/4.0 AL (IF) SDM
can you use this lens for kr
does it focus automatically
is it any good

Yes you can definitely use it as the K-r supports SDM, also any back catalogued pentax lens can be used with modern dslr cameras. For auto focus, anything with F, FA or DA will work. You can also look into Sigma or Tamron lenses. I don't have this lens but read the user reviews here.
