K-r Viewfinder...

I have had this camera now for 2-3 months.
I love the camera.
However there is one issue.
The viewfinder information panel display (bottom) is useless in the outdoors.
I mean it is so dim that on a cloudy overcast day it washes out.
I have seen my friends Nikon and Canon and they are very bright and clean even on sunny day...

Is mine defective or it's Pentax thing?
I had iST DL for 5 years and it's the same thing.
I had hoped they would have addressed it by now....

Thanks,
Robert

I use the K-r just a few days now, but the information display in the viewfinder is quiet hard to read.
I'm going to buy a bigger eyecup. Found one online for about $12/€9 - and yes, you can swivel it around for use with left or right eye.

Supply in the US

or in Europe

It is usable, but certainly could be better. So I voted yes. You really have to look hard, though.

kheldour,
Can you give me the website and the name of that eyecup? Is that a magnifying eyecup?

It is not as good as indoor but I can't really say it's "unusable".
Ergo, I voted yes.

After a bit of trimming with a utility knive, I've adapted a Hoodman 'HoodEye' eyecup (p/n for the Canon 5D model) onto my K-x rubber eyepiece holder.

It does help quite a bit when shooting in bright conditions.

Thanks everyone for responses and votes.
At least mine is NOT defective (no point in sending for service).
I will check out eye-cup idea, if it magnifies the image and gives close fit to eye it might help.

Pentax really should address this, it is very hard to read and if other companies can make it batter why not Pentax?

Otherwise this is a great camera and I am glad I purchased it.

BTW: I have old Canon A-1 film camera made in 1978-79? You should see the viewfinder info on that one. I used to own Olympus OM-4 another nice film SLR it had a great viewfinder display also.
