Tamron Adaptall 2 lens with K-r

Staff note: This post may contain affiliate links, which means Pentax Forums may earn a small commission if a visitor clicks through and makes a purchase. If you would like to support the forum directly, you may also make a donation here.

Please educated me on the following (being a new comer to DSLR and Pentax):

1. How to use an adaptall lens? Do I need to get a adapter mount for my K-r?
2. Does tamron Adaptall and Adaptall 2 lenses required different adapters?
3. What will the shortcomings be in my K-r when used: Will there be Av, Tv or P modes available for the camera? Any metering issues?
4. Any other comments and advices on this?

thanks

you need an adaptal / K mount. Then you can use any adaptall lense.

Av : yes

Tv and Sv : no, except if your adaptall can handle "A" settings (i don't know if adaptall can do this, that's why i answered that.)

Yes, adaptall / K mount can be a bit expensive, but after that, you can found a lot of great lenses like 28mm f2.5 sell very cheap because it need the adaptall mount. So if you get an adaptall mount for cheap it's all good !

it can handle it if you can find an original A adapter...they can get quite rare and expensive, and some of them are sold but won't work so what you get is a M one.

What a great concept..and a shame it dissapeared...when i see adaptall i'm always hoping that someone who only makes manual focus lenses will pick it up again...

Thanks for that Coeurdechene and for your comments here. So when you say original A adapter you mean PK/A adapter mentioned in the above link. And I gather from your suggestion, if I buy PK/A adapter I will be able to use Av and Tv modes along with Manual. Am I correct?

I am asking this so I can go around and hunt for one....

I am also confused how to search for a proper adapter, should I call it adaptall to K mount or PK/A adapter for pentax?

Last but not least, will this adapter work in both adaptall2 and adaptall 1 lenses?

you can search "adaptall PK/A"...
I think that it'll work with all of them ..i have a generic adapter that works as a K one and it's suitable for both lines.

If you haven't seen it yet adaptall-2.org this is a good page that can give you info about the adaptall lenses.

Thank You, is this one here a PK/A mount?

They don't show any contacts on the back that will send aperture info to the body also this one looks different from this one here which I guess is a PK adapter and not the PK/A.

For me that adaptall2.org site has no info on the mount details but there are info on the lens so not sure how it looks

No, that's a PK/M mount. A PK/A Adaptall-2 mount will cost between $80.00 to $120.00 (or more) depending on your luck in bidding on eBay. A PK/A mount will give you the same functionality as any Pentax A series lens; auto everything except auto focus. Here's a picture of the PK/A mount:

Hope this helps,

Try to get a Pk/A at a reasonable price...if you can't the PkM is fine too (M mode or Av wide open...and when in Av you can change the aperture ring and use the over/under expose option to compensate).
Not having Tv,Av,Sv is not a big loss.

Hi

thanks for that knowledge sharing!

Just some last couple questions from me:
1. do i need to worry about any dust issues getting thru the adapter or will it be same as any usage with a normal pentax lens? Maybe I am thinking too much!
2. Are there any issues with attaching and removing of adapters like I hear about ricoh pin getting stuck and all...

thanks again

one more here: when buying an adaptall lens do I have to buy the one specific for pentax (like sigma and others these days) or any adaptall lens and then the PK adapter takes care of it? this will help me fish for it elsewhere as well as I don't see much being traded in the marketplace.

Any adaptall will fit your K mount adapter...my nikon adapter is kind of tricky to put on the lens, the generic K adaptall adapter is simple...the original, i'm not sure if it will be a bit tricky as the nikon one or if it will be really easy as the generic K.
You shouldn't have any kind of issues if the adapter is a pentax adapter (they do sell Ricoh adapters with the ricoh pin...just don't buy a ricoh adapter and you're good to go).
I've had no particular trouble with dust...to be sure just use a rocket blower now and then to clean the parts and all will be fine.
