okay thank you .. that will be easy enough to remember .. using my own metaphors with it .. a lot of work I plan to do is landscape.. far and close up.. and cars .. both in motion and stationary

Ha, I thought I knew lenses until I got my K-r. It's confusing at first, but you get over it.
If you are comfortable shooting manual, or at least manual aperture, there are just so many lenses out there to try. If I had the bucks to spend I'd go for some of the nice * ones. You could also go the adapter and 6X7 route. Big heavy old glass

haha i dont think i want all of that. what is a good wide angle lens available as a k mount?

Old adaptal 2 lens can be found cheap to play with. An example might be a Tamron SP 28-80. Works in Av with a PK adaptal mount. 28 isn't that "wide" but I just can't seem to part with my old lenses (friends)

You can buy several "play" lenses for the cost of "fair" AF zoom.

A P/KA mount will cost more than it's probably worth.

To add to the slew of info, if buying older lens watch out for R-K mounts or any Ricoh lens. These lens will fit and work just like a K-mount, but some (not all) have a pin that can cause the lens to lock on the camera. If you get one of these lens you can easily remove the pin to use on a Pentax camera.
