A little experiment without the O-GPS1.

Hi. A few nights ago, I did a little experiment with only a Pentax 55-300mm lens with a doubler. The result was interesting but would have been better if I had used the GPS which I have ordered but not received yet. The parameters of the picture are ISO 3200, effective f9 and 3 seconds of exposure. The subject was Jupiter with 4 of its moons. There is some trailing because even 3 seconds is too much without guiding. Jupiter is overexposed because you don't see the moons otherwise since they are quite dim. I am in the process of getting a telescope which will make things more interesting. Comments welcomed.

moon from 20110909-comparison

I have a couple for comparison. #1 is the Pentax 18-135mm at 135. The second is the 50-300mm at 300. I tried a 3d shot with an optika 500mm with 2x teleconverter, but it came out so blurred it was aweful. I haven't mastered manual focus with it, yet.

I've enjoyed reading the posts and seeing the pictures here... I'm just starting to get into astrophotography with my K-r, looking forward to learning new techniques.
