HD playback is grainy

Hi.

Having a problem when recording HD video and playing it back on PC. The video is all grainy, no where near HD quality, more like VGA.??

Any idea what the problem is?

Firmware: version 1.11
Memory: Maxell 8GB SDHC Class 6 up to 10 MBps

Thanks.

Was the video taken inside, or at dawn/dusk?

HD is 1280x720 wich is a 16:9 format and VGA is 640x480 wich is a 4:3 format. You should see the difference.

When there is little light iso is going up and grain or noise is coming in. Solution is either having more light or change to black/white in wich case you loose the colour noise.

Mmm hmm, try shooting a movie outdoors during the daytime you should notice less noise.

If you want to know how to get less noise for indoor movies I suggest you read up on how the big three: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and Sensitivity (ISO) interact to produce an image!

Had time to shoot a movie outside in good conditions and plentiful of light. There's a great improvement compared to shooting indoors, still noticeable noise though.
I was expecting just to press and record and the results would be nice HD 720p quality, but obviously not the case...not impressed with the quality.
Having watched some users videos on you tube which have been recorded in 720p using a K-r, well they just look absolutely fantastic!
So, this beginner will go away and experiment shooting HD video indoors and outdoors and understand a bit more about, "the big three".

Many thanks for your suggestions.

Have you set your camera to HD720 and 3 star quality?

K-r does compress a little more then K-5 does, so quality is less, but shoud be still very good.

A good lens does give better image quality.
