Airport Photography

Hello guys,

I am planning on visiting Manchester Airport, England on the 3rd of September and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the best settings for take-offs, landing's and taxiing?
Also does anyone have any photo's from airports?

Thanks

Better have your ID, passport etc ready.
Practice what you will say to the cops/airport security...

Personally I would never go anywhere near an airport to take pics of planes without getting some kind of permission first. You could be asking for trouble...

Normal range is ISO 200 - 12800. You need to go to the expanded range to get ISO 100

Here is the on line manual - it is searchable - just click on the binoculars in the left hand margin
Take a look at page 99 at the top, third bullet down.

hope that helps

Thanks very much interested_observer!

psychdoc- In the UK you don't get asked by Police or security, after all there are designated areas around the airports.

Thanks

Photographing aircraft - PPRuNe Forums

Here is a quote:

"I was airside at Gatwick recently and had an unusual full frame shot of a Virgin B744 on Stand 13 from the empty bussing gate when someone from Menzies came over and asked to see my ID. I explained I wasn't about to do any such thing as we weren't quite living in a Police state and he ought to stop over reacting. His superior came over and asked what I was doing, I explained I just wanted a photo of the aircraft at which point she asked me to wait while she phoned security".

Be aware of the possibility of this kind of harassment, be prepared on how to handle it, but do not bow to this kind of tyranny.

Be polite, forthright, and if at all possible record the encounter. If you do get abused by power tripping security or law enforcement thugs, that recording might be the only way you ever see compensation for it.

A $20-30 mp3 recorder that has a one-touch record mode can go a long way towards ensuring your rights.

I'm going to Manchester Airport though there is a viewing park for people etc... and then there are other places where you are very unlikely to be asked.

Thanks

Why? All you are doing is taking pictures openly in a place where anyone in the public can see the subject.
Why would this action - by itself - be a reason for asking for trouble.

Yup. If asked, answer the first minimal questions but remember that to abdicate your rights piece by piece
will not stop terrorism. It will stop democracy and freedom.

I remember that thread. All the more reason to be prepared to (entirely legally) resist this kind of abuse the next time it happens.
