Bye, bye film hello digital

Hi forum: I have finally thrown in the towel and making my way into the digital age. I am a long time user of Pentax equipment with lots of lenses, filters and such things so I bought this K-r on the recommendation of a friend who is a master photographer. My specialty is recording art work and jewelry and I used to use a PENTAX-M Macro 1:4 50 mm lens and 64T film. Guess what? Can't find 64T anymore. The good news is that the lens seems to fit on the K-r and I have managed to take a few shots with it. I had to cut off the aperture lever and I am still working hard to find the best exposure and white balance. I like white whites and black blacks in addition to high resolution. So I may have a lot of questions for the forum. Gil S

If you are shooting RAW, you can adjust the White Balance after you import the files onto the computer. It may make your life easier than adjusting it while shooting.

why did you cut the aperture lever? The lens could have worked withthe K-r as it was.

I presume they cut it so that they could see a DoF preview, but you can map the DoF preview to the green button as one of the features such that you can stop down the shutter as in the shot (so that you don't have to modify your lenses).

And welcome to digital photography. I think you will find that it is easier to shoot raw and process the raws to get the contrast that you are looking for.

Thanks All

Thanks for the advice. I do like to see the depth of field and this marvelous lens will stop down to f/32.

Are you previewing DOF through the viewfinder (at f32 with a k-r?), or on the lcd?

Preview DoF

So far I have used the view finder for almost everything except changing the settings, checking status and such.
