what are you trying to do with the flash?

I think most (including me) will tell you AF-540 FGZ if you have the funds. Bounce, Swivel, P-TTL, manual power, manual zoom, AF assist, master, slave, powerful
The AF-360 does not have a swivel head, but does offer bounce. Slightly less powerful than 540, but filled with the other goodies.

Metz makes some pentax compatible flashes, but I haven't used any, so I'll reserve comment.

Vivitar also makes a pentax compatible flash with their 1-series 383. CHEAP!! ($125, new) I use this mainly on manual mode, on a radio trigger, so I can't attest to it's full compatibility. Zoom and power can be adjusted manually, which I like. Power output is only slightly less than the 540 (G/N 148' @85M vs G/N 148' @50M). Works great as a second flash for me.

I have an AF-360 and like the results. If I had had enough extra money, I would have gotten the AF-540, not necessarily for the swivel, but more for the slight power advantage. But, I don't remember there being a large difference between the two, and like the features and the predictability of the AF-360, so would recommend it if you're budget-conscious.

Best flash choices (in the quality and supported functions order) for Pentax:

1) Pentax
2) Metz
3) Sigma
4) all other dedicated flashes that support AF.
