Since I have an O.K. kit at the moment this is what I have in the bag.

ThinkTank Street Walker Bag
Pentax K-r
Black Rapid RS-4 Strap
Homemade wrist strap
18-55 Kit Lens
55-300 DA-L
35mm 2.4 DA-L (My favorite lens by far)
an older Pentax 50mm 2.0 (the old film kit lens)
Pedal Hoods for 3 of the lenses
Adjustable ND Filter for the 18-55 and step up ring to mount it on the 35mm or 50mm
Lens cleaning cloth
Pentax 360 Flash
Battery Charger for camera battery
Extra Double AAs for flash
Notepad and Pen

Not in bag:
Rocket Blower
Benro A2580F Tripod (awesome set of legs) and a mediocre ball head that will be upgraded one day.

Changes that will be made soon
Getting rid of the lithium ion battery and the bulky charger and changing everything over to Eneloop AAs and a small travel charger for when I am on the road.
Probably going to ditch my 35mm lens hood since I can use a my step up ring and mount the 52mm hood it.

Anything I am for sure missing?

I generally go out with one lens and my K-r because I do a lot of neighborhood shooting and areas bordering it. Maybe a spare battery if needed. My gear consists of the two kit lenses (18-55 and 50-200), the 35mm f2.4, and on order are the 18-135mm and the 16-45mm for Christmas, the latter of which also focuses pretty close. Am hoping to add the 40 Ltd.

In my lowepro exchange messenger:

K-r
Kit DAL 18-55 (Never use, should probably remove it)
Tamrom SP 90 2.8 (Never use outside, shouldn't really be in my bag...)
DA 50-200WR
35 2.4 AL is my main walkaround lens.

Spare SD card, spare batteries, lens cloth, blower, manual, remote in the pockets. I have no idea what I'm going to do as I get more lenses. I already leave my flash out of the bag because I never use it. But I probably need a larger bag that can hold more stuff. And some sort of dry storage for my unused lenses.

K-r or K-x depending on what I am planning and the lighting.

Kids Sports:
Monopod
DAL 55-300
FA50
Extra batteries
CPL Filters for each lens
Lens brush and wipes

Museums:
Tamron 10-24
One of the 50's: SuperTak 50/1.4, SuperTak 55/1.8, M50/2, M50/4 Macro, or FA50/1.4
One or more of the Macro's:
M50/4 Macro, Quantaray 28-90 Macro, or the M100/4 Macro
Extra batteries
CPL Filters for each lens
Lens brush and wipes
and Tripod or Monopod depending on the rules of the specific museum.

Wandering about:
Tamron 10-24
DAL 18-55
DAL 55-300
Extra batteries
CPL Filters for each lens
Lens brush and wipes
and Tripod or Monopod depending.

I either use a Lowepro Toploader Zoom 55 bag with attachments for the lenses or a Vanguard slingbag (although I am looking for a better slingbag.....) all lenses have a hood of course.

UPDATE -- There's the usual stuff in my carry bag:

* Tamron 10-24; DA10-17; DA18-250
* something fast in the 24-55mm range
* the usual Raynox, batteries, mem.cards

Besides those, I now delve into my ultralight bag:

* Enna Tele-Sandmar 100/4.5 (110g)
* Vivitar-LU 75/3.5 and tubes (90g total)
* CZJ Tessar 50/2.8 (12 iris blades, 110g)
* Loreo 35/11 shift lens-in-a-cap (30g)

When I have money again, that last will be replaced by an ultralight 28 -- I'm told there's a Ricoh at 60g and a Vivitar at 120g. An ultralight 24 or 25 would be even better, but I don't know if such exist in the 100g neighborhood. The ultralight bag is small and light enough to stuff into a cargo pocket or belt pouch. No, they're not a do-everything kit, but they're handy. The 50 and 75 are easily pushed into macro territory. I find this mini-kit for strolling around with minimal encumbrances.

Like most posters, depends on the weather & where I'm planning on going, not that I necessarily stick to the plan.

Yep, you're missing macro range. A 100mm macro would fit well in your kit, and would also give you a tighter portrait lens and brighter telephoto. If that's not doable, you could add a Raynox 150 to your 55-300mm. It's harder to handle than a dedicated macro lens and quality isn't quite comparable, but it's cheap and a lot of fun.

Hoods can take up a lot of room in a bag. My solution is to carry a single 49mm rubber collapsible hood for standard focal length lenses. It folds up to just about nothing and fits on my FA 35, FA 50 and D FA 100mm macro.

PS You mean petal hood, not pedal hood. They are so named because they resemble the petals of a flower.

I am crazy for kit bags. The ideal bag is the key to a successful day. My aim is to carry everything I may need, and nothing more. I use several different configurations:

Waist pack (AKA fanny pack, not a real camera bag)
K-x with DA 40 mounted, DA 15

Small Messenger bag (weather-resistant, not a camera bag)
K20D w DA 18-135mm WR and DA 40, battery, lens cloth, memory card.

Pentax sling bag
Body with 16-45, 55-300, 10-17, FA 35, FA 50, Sears 135mm macro, Raynox DCR-150, 49mm & 67mm CPL, Gary Fong Puffer, battery, lens cloth, memory card.

Think Tank Streetwalker
K20D with DA 18-135mm WR, DA 15mm, DA 40mm, D FA 100mm macro, A*300mm f/4, Sigma EF-530 Super, Omnibounce diffuser, corded shutter release, batteries, lens cloth, memory card.

Think Tank Retrospective 30
K20D w grip, K-x, 18-135mm, DA 40mm, D FA 100mm, Sigma EF-530 Super, flash bracket & cord, Omnibounce diffuser, Pentax remote, batteries, lens cloth, memory card.
