initialising the O-RC1

I've just bought the RC1 remote control for use with my K-r.

How do I initialise it for use???

Yes. Says to put the camera in Standby and point the RC1 at the infrared receiver...

Don't know how to put the camera on standby - it's not in the K-r manual and nothing seems to be working with the RC1..?

Go to your shooting modes (Single, Continuous, Timer) and select remote. That gives you Remote and Remote with 2 second delay (I think). Then if you go to your custom menus you can have the remote take the picture when pressed (default) or change it to focus and then take the picture.

Fair enough. I have the older IR remote, and no initialization was required.
Here's how it works for me: Turn the camera on, go into the drive mode (on the K5 it's the upper 4 way button (self timer control), and set the drive mode to remote control. On the K5 there are a few options after that for delayed shooting and continuous shooting.
It should be similar on the K-r.

Out of curiosity will this remote allow the camera to focus or must that be done before taking pictures with the K-5?

One more question. Can this remote also be used for long term exposures?

NM, I've found the answer elsewhere. The answer is no for both.

Yes to focus and Yes to long exposures.

In my K-R its in the Custom Menu, you change one of the variables. If you hit the remote you can have it focus before the shot or not focus. You focus mode has to be set to single (not continuous) for this option to work.

Yes, the remote can be used for long term exposure. When in bulb mode you can have one push open the shutter and another button push close the shutter. Not sure if you have to change a variable in the Custom Menu to do that.

I was mislead.. I had even ask this at a camera shop where I got the remote. You are right, even in the custom menu for the k-5 it's the same. I've read that this remote only being ir, is only good for 15 feet. In testing it, I think I can safely add 5 more feet to that.
