Can I use a Helios 44m on K-r?

Hi!
I just bought a Helios 44m for my K-r. I was wondering if the pin that is sticking out can cause any harm to the mirror? It does stick out quit a bit, so I'm concerned. Does anyone have prior experience with this lens?

lot's of people here use the heios 44. As long as your copy is M42 and you have the M42 adapter.

Unless it is not an m42 screw-mount, that pin sticks out the same as on every one of the gazillion m42 lenses in the world (including all old Pentax Takumars), and you can use (almost) any one of them with an adapter. On the Helios, it is likely you'll have to glue down the pin (or otherwise get it to stay down) as it probably doesn't have an auto-man switch (did any of them?) and so the aperture will always stay wide-open otherwise.

Then great --you're in business! (My 44M doesn't have a switch -- had to glue the pin down.)

My 44-2 is a "preset" - no pin, no switch. one ring to set the aperture, one ring to slide between wide open and the setting of the other ring. I don't have much M42 experience, but I have to think the preset is the easiest, most convenient to use. Sounds like the 44-2 came in preset, auto, auto/man, and rarely K mount.

The 44-2 was M42 preset with single coating, 8 iris blades.

The 44-3 was M42 preset with multi coating, 8 iris blades.

The 44M was M42 auto/manual with single coating, 8 iris blades.

The 44M-4 was M42 auto with single or multi coating, 6 iris blades.

The 44M-5 and up are M42 auto with multi coating, 6 iris blades.

The 44K-4 is the KM version.

Thanks for the help everybody! The lens is great. It can use Av, so its even "half" automatic. It makes beautiful pictures, even inside. As soon as I can get some decent pictures (that are not in my office ) I'll post them.

p.s: The mirror did get stuck once, and I had to take the battery out to fix it. I have read it happened to others as well. I hope this doesn't damage the body in any way
