Auto white balance issues

I have a problem when using AWB on my K-R. When i'm shooting time lapse i have a problem on the transitions, when day starts turning to night, and streetlamps start to light up. One instance everything is fine but then camera switches white balance to tungsten.. Problem isn't the wrong white balance but that switch between modes which is very hard to work around, i think that shooting in RAW would fix the problem so I can fix the problematic pictures in batch after in lightroom. But that is awful lot of data generated. Do you have some advice?

This is my first time lapse ever just to test it out. The issue I'm talking about starts around 2:40. Don't judge the video itself, it has many mistakes, I know.

I would just turn AWB off and use a daylight setting. I would think some color shifting in a time-lapse would actually be what you want.

And Lightroom works with jpgs too -- you can still adjust the white balance, but it is a relative rather than an absolute setting and somewhat more crude than using RAW, but it still works.

yeah. i know. but it is more difficult to adjust WB on JPEG than on RAW. In this video camera shifted WB three times, so i used lightroom to try and fix the issue but it is still noticable. I wouldn't mind the changes as long as they are subtle. I think that if i put it to daylight that after when lights come on images would be to warm but i will try.

I have been shooting timelapse frequently this year during the transition at sundown or sunset and can say with assurance that AWB is the worst way to use. Unless your are very close to a parking lot with sodium vapor lamps or streetlights then as vonBaloney recommended, just a daylight (or cloudy if appropriate or just 5200K) setting will give a good result.

yeah.. tnx on response... I was worried that my K-R is defective... It would bi ok to shoot with AWB but it seems that AWB has so much trouble under mixed conditions like it can not make up its mind, like some sort of dead-zones are overlapping. Maybe next firmware update could fix it, if there would be any...
