Mostly it was memory card support (for SDXD and SDHC) and some people claim the AF and menu speeds changed. You can look it up in the release notes on the Pentax page where you download the firmware. The thing is, Pentax (or any other brand) doesn't really explain all the changes a given firmware makes and people are left to speculate on everything except the few things explicitly mentioned.

the changelog doesn't reveal all the things, it says only some sdxc support :P
i'm charging my battery, and will flash the new firmware (1.12) and see for my self what are the "new" features

lol well they aren't big things like new shooting modes, they are little optimizations or bug fixes. It will probably make the overall experience better. Be sure to follow the instructions of the firmware install, though. Don't interrupt it, as that can actually be pretty bad. But you seem to know what you are doing.

Generally, anything that Pentax would silently fix in firmware would be issues that they aren't willing to admit are issues at all, officially. I wouldn't expect too much, I haven't seen any major changes myself.

Not much at first sight... but, i think that AF is more accurate than before (maybe a placebo) and in the menu is the GPS option... everything is still here (even my settings... the internal battery works

)... anyway... i have this new firmware for less than an hour... i was on v1.0 for six months, so along with using the k-r maybe i'll see some overall improvement

Pentax should "enable" a lot of other features... after all, this is not only a photo equipment... it is a computer, with a big sensor and lens, too

I just wish Pentax release some kind of modder friendly SDK, or better yet, some firmware source code. Then the community could implement their own desired features, much like they do for Canon. A modding community would boost Pentax's visibility a bit, too.

i agree with you..
canon collects many points on their aftermarket firmwares.... firmwares that use the hardware in full!

does anyone know where i can get a copy of the 1.10 firmware ? i have searched for it a great deal but cant seem to find it, any trust worthy site that sais it has it is meerely an old post with re-direct link to the recent version.

reason i want to downgrade is a while back i was using some tethering software and it worked great. in between then and now i updated to 1.11, and more recently 1.12, but last night i broke out the cables to do some moon shots and the software wouldnt recognize the camera. I know the cable is good because i can see the sd card in the camera, the only thing i can think of is the firmware. i backed down to 1.11 but that didnt work, and since my camera came stock with 1.10 i never downloaded it. anyone that has it or know where i can get it...please help. thanks

edit. 1.10 not 1.0

1.11 has been out since last July, it should work with anything current that supports the K-r. Which tethering program is it, PKTether?

Oldest I have personally is 1.10. If that's any use to you I can upload it somewhere.

@badavis5 Here you go. It's a self extracting LZH, straight from the Pentax site. If you have winrar or something installed, it's probably less hassle to right click and extract it, rather than to run the self extractor.

Let me know when you're done with it, and I'll take it down. No rush though.

got it !! thanks again !!

edit: after i put 1.10 back on PKtether still didnt work.. which confused the heck out of me. after digging through the settings i noticed that at some point my usb connection type got changed to PTP, so i put it back on MSC and that was the kicker. it now works

It will probably make the overall experience better. Be sure to follow the instructions of the firmware install, though. Don't interrupt it, as that can actually be pretty bad. But you seem to know what you are doing.
