I usually bring the 28-80mm Sigma around when I'm out walking about. 28-210 seems too bulky.

My choice is the DA 18-250 . One of only 2 lenses I own, the other being the Sigma 10-20.
The main 2 drawbacks of the DA 18-250 are the weight and the lens creep.

Lens creep is easily cured with a wide rubber band. And weight... well, the DA18-250 is only 450g / 16oz, same as the Tamron 10-24, about half the Vivitar-Kiron S1 V1 70-210, about 1/3 the Lil'Bigma DG 170-500 -- and not much more than the K50/1.2. It don't bother me.

Just got my "new" DA 18-250 (thanks Matt!). The lens creep is there if you point the lens straight down, which I don't often. As for the weight, I kind of like it. It's a good kind of heft that you don't get with the kit zooms, makes it feel well built. I'll post some pics later.

What's not to like? The IQ. The 18-250 is definitely the better lens.

I just received my first Pentax camera as a Christmas gift from my son. I previously owned a Sigma SD9 (not as bad as they say, but bulky) I've been shooting with Nikon film cameras and large format and a few others for nearly 43 years. Now, I have to find a "walkaround" lens for this new K-30. My previous experience tells me that the longer and faster a lens, the heavier it is. At my age, I'm in no mood to carry a heavy chunk of glass in my bag. 17-55 is the best range for me. Seriously consider what you will be shooting. Primes are better for quality but zooms are more practical in actual usage. I purchased the legendary 70-210 zoom today, but I will generally not carry it unless it's in a backpack. Oh, my lumbago!
