You might be correct if there was such a beast. Actually, there is no IR remote unit designed specifically for the K-r. It is the other way around; the K-r was designed to use one of a couple models of Pentax's IR remotes. As it happens, there is nothing that special about Pentax's units versus 3rd party alternatives - other than costing several times the price of 3rd party units.

It is more than just semantics. It would be a duller world if you could only use Pentax lenses, flashes, filters, or other accessories with our Pentax cameras.
I think you missed my point... whether the remote was designed for the camera or the camera was designed for the remote, the bottom line is there appear to be no problems or work-arounds when using the manufacturer's remote, besides, not all universal remotes are universal. Personally, I don't consider $19.95 for the manufacturer's remote to be outrageous, but maybe that's just me.

As for lenses, flashes and other accessories... I consider the utility & quality of the product as well as the price. In fact, I have a 35-200mm Zoom + Macro lens (non-Pentax) that I used with my "film" SLR that is compatible with my K-r... although it was made before "auto-focus" was available. I fact, having that lens was one of the factors I took into consideration when deciding on the specific DSLR I was going to purchase.

Anyway, to each his own. I'll stick with the factory model myself.

Nobody said $19.95 was outrageous.

My $9.00 remote performs the same functions at the same level as the $19.95 remote does.

The only difference, one is branded Pentax.

Why would I pay $11 more?

I have better things to do with my money then waste it, even if it is only $11.
