Yep. Use it a lot. It's a pretty decent lens & I get good results with it.
Agree - Using it around f/8 in good light, it works very nicely. Good lightweight, unassuming walkabout lens and great for family outings, etc. Eventually will upgrade to something nicer, but for now it does the job, sometimes surprisingly well

+1 at around 35mm f 5.6-8 it's a pretty decent lens, good for casual walkabout certainly

I actually do think it's a pretty good lens. But are those 17-70mm ones better?

It's easy for a beginner to use, unlike a prime (I probably don't have much knowledge about using a prime properly yet, so I find my 55 1.4 much harder to use than the kit lens)

Yes actually. I use it all the time. It's an underrated lens IMHO.

My original K20D kit contained the DA10-17, DA18-250, and FA50/1.4. Those are my "kit lenses" and still my most-used. I bought the DA18-55 v.1 later (CHEAP!) and use it mostly to mount filters, optical adapters, my ring.flash, etc. I also use it for general shooting if I want to work within its limitations, same as if I'd chosen a 28-80 or 35-70 or 19-35. Even its most severe optical problems are negligible if I've nailed a centered subject. The DA18-250 has spoiled me but that doesn't make me want to toss the DA18-55. I'll get a WR copy when my finances improve.

Although it is a great lens for the price, I haven't used mine since I bought the Tamron 28-75/2.8. I wish I had the WR version; it would get use on rainy days.

I have 2 DAL 18-55's one came with each of my bodies. One is a little sharper than the other, both quite good. I mostly stopped using them when I got my DA 18-135 WR & AD 35 f2.4 The only use they get is indoors with flash set at about f8

There's actually not much point of me having WR lenses because the k-r body isn't water proof.. But I've found light to moderate rain and snow for a short period of time ok with the camera/lens...

Yes. It's the widest lens you can get for Pentax at a reasonable price, plus it's just convenient.

When I first got my K-r I didn't care for the kt lens much at all. Now I really like it! I think with me, it was just Hoser-error. I know a little more now, and enjoy the kit lens more because of it.

I used a DA 18-55 with a K100D Super. After a year I bought a 16-45mm and haven't used the kit lens since. I love the extra wide 16mm FOV, colour & contrast are better, the 16-45 is a stop faster at the long end, and it's sharper across the board, even at 45mm cropped to 55mm.

I didn't buy a kit lens with the K20D. My white K-x came with a matching DA L 18-55 which has better contrast and sharpness than the original 18-55, but still not a match for the 16-45. I used an 18-250 superzoom for a while along with the 16-45, but now I mostly use an 18-135. The 18-135 performance is in between the 18-55 and 16-45, but I like the range. It's become my main zoom, I supplement it with primes.

I'm only hanging on to the 18-55 kit lenses to sell with the cameras.

I use the DA L 18-55 as my walk-around lens and for wide shots. I also have the DA L 55-300 and use if for longer shots. I'd like to get one of the Sigma 17-50 or 17-70 models, but they are a little pricey for my budget.

Never used it at all,

unfortunatly a body only option wasn't available when I got my K-x and I needed
a constant f2.8 zoom in the same range so I was stuck with an unused kit lens for a while.

Included the DAL 18-55mm as a 'free bonus' with lens sale/trade a year later.

Sold my kit lens.

I sold the kit lens and bought a Sigma 18-200mm lens to leave on the Kr all the time. When I want something more precise, i switch to a Pentax 35mm f2.4 fixed lens.
